As many of you know, the 2nd Back to the Berg Contest went on a few weeks ago in San Francisco, and tons of never been done tricks went down the long 4 stairs…A bunch of them were super sick, including Chris Cole’s backside 360 which was 2nd try, and a switch frontside flip. Other sick tricks included an airwalk, backside 180 one foot, and a disaster on the last step done by Lizard King. Lindsey Roberston did an effortless backside heelflip down the big 4. Jordan Hoffert did a variel heel, and Nick Merlino did the first switch heelflip down the 23′ long gap. Perhaps the sickest trick of the day had to go to Cody Mcentire…the dude did a backside bigspin, which is one of the hardest tricks in skateboarding, especially down such a huge gap. Check out a video over on the exclusive sneaker blog where Cody talks about his experience with the contest and his bigspin at wallenberg…definitely sick stuff.

So many people wonder about this, whether it’s parents looking for the perfect board for their kids or the beginner looking for the perfect starter board. Well, here’s a big secret some of you may not know about that will help you out. Are you ready? Well, here it is…IT DOESN’T REALLY MATTER (as long as you buy a REAL skateboard, not like the ones you find in Wal-Mart and Toys R’ Us…those are just dangerous). There is no real difference in skateboard brands that will make one better than the other. The only real thing to look out for is the size of the skateboard, other than that everything is pretty much the same. There may be slight differences in the concave and shape, but these are so minuscule to the beginner that it won’t affect you at all. Over time, skaters tend to associate themselves with specific brands and begin to prefer certain boards, but this is just natural and happens in pretty much every sport…it doesn’t mean that one is better than the other.

So if you are buying a skateboard for your kids or grandkids, you can’t really go wrong…don’t worry about getting the best, because they are pretty much the same.
