How to Backside 180.

Well, the backside 180 is pretty much just like a frontside 180, only you turn the other way. The principles are still the same, you want to do the ollie and whip your shoulders around hard, except backside not frontside. Turn your shoulders and ollie and you should hopefully go all the way around. Check out the video below for more tips…listen to Jeremy Wray, he knows what he’s talking about.

How to Frontside 180.

Frontside 180s are simply an ollie with a 180 degree turn. The key to this trick is turning your shoulders the way you want to go. The harder you throw your shoulders, the faster and harder you will turn. Your body generally follows your shoulders. Check out the video below for a full explanation of this trick

How to Pop Shuvit.

After learning ollies, the pop shuvit is probably the next trick you should work on. The pop shuvit is probably the easiest trick in the eyes of most skaters, it is simply a 180 degree turn of the skateboard, without you turning…so you pop the board, jump, the board turns 180 and you land back on it.

There are 2 different ways to do a pop shuvit, frontside and backside. Backside is when you kick the board back with your back foot, and frontside is the other way…you kick it in front of you with your back foot. Backside shuvits are a bit easier to learn, so we will concentrate on those for now. See picture to the left for example.

So, when you do this trick you want to have your back foot on the edge of the tail, and your front foot in the middle or close to the front bolts. Your front foot doesn’t really do that much during this trick, it just sort of gets out of the way. When you have your feet set up, bend down like you are going to do an ollie, pop the board but sort of scoop it and kick your back foot behind you…don’t do anything with your front foot, just try to keep it out of the way. Hopefully your board will turn 180, when it does try to catch it with your front foot to stop it from spinning and land back on your board on top of the bolts. This is a bit easier when you can have it explained visually, so watch the video below for more explanation of this trick.

Great Beginner Skateboards!

Only 22 more shopping days left until Christmas, what to get that aspiring young skateboarder? How about the perfect skateboard for a beginner! You want to get something cheap…but not too cheap…trust me, those things you get at Wal-mart and Target are NOT skateboards, these are halfway working death traps; they are considerably more dangerous and a waste of money. You can find reasonably priced, professional quality skateboards that will last, but won’t break your wallet. You also do NOT want to forget the safety equipment a beginner should have when starting out skating. Protective gear is a MUST have for any kid (or adult) just starting out, because believe me…YOU WILL FALL!

Now that we have the safety stuff out of the way, I have compiled a list of top quality skateboards that are perfect for that new skater in the family…check them out below, or look around at other complete skateboards for sale in the store. All of boards below come with all parts, they are complete skateboards.

How To do an Ollie

Alright, this is the most important thing to learn in skateboarding, it is basically a jump in which your board stays with your feet. The ollie is the foundation for pretty much every other trick, so you must learn how to ollie in order to keep progressing. This trick takes a while to learn and some definite practice to get down, but once you get it, you’ll have it. This is a very hard trick to explain through words, so I will let the video below explain. Listen to Reese Forbes kids, he probably has the best ollie and highest pop out there…suck those knees up.
